An unknown disease has killed more than 90% of the country's children. The survivors acquired strange, frightening abilities. All of them are now held in concentration camps, deprived of freedom, normal life and individuality. Ruby spent six long years in the camp, but in the end she managed to escape. Joining a group of other fugitives, she searches for the East River, a place where people like her can feel safe. During this long journey, Ruby will have to decide more than once whether freedom is worth the sacrifices that will have to be made for it.
