Leonid Nikolaevich Andreev (1871–1919) - Russian writer, representative of the Silver Age of Russian literature. The story “Bargamot and Garaska” (1898) is Andreev’s literary debut. It was after the publication of this work that Maxim Gorky drew attention to the writer. And a few months later, Gorky asked the young writer to send a “good story” for a popular literary magazine. So L. Andreev’s story “Petka in the Dacha” (1899) was published. The hard life of little Petka, a hairdresser's assistant, changed in an incredible way when he ended up at the master's dacha in Tsaritsyno. The rude and hooligan Sashka - the hero of the story "Angel" (1899) - is transformed when he sees a wax figurine of an angel on the Christmas tree. Later, impressed by this story, A. Blok will write the poem “Leaf Angel.” The story “Bite” (1901) is the story of a lonely dog living on the street. In her life, she met only evil and cruel people. Fear and anger took root in the animal’s heart for a long time. Andreev’s prose is piercing and disturbing. It amazes, makes you think, makes every person a little different. The book also includes two stories by the writer: “The Life of Vasily of Thebes” (1903) and “Judas Iscariot” (1907).
