In his new novel, German Sadulayev (b. 1973) returns to the Chechen theme with which he made his debut in literature. “Shalin Raid” is a semi-documentary, semi-fictional history of a military operation that took place in Chechnya during the second war. The main character, Tamerlan Magomadov, who studied law at Leningrad State University, returns home to the village of Shali. The bloody wheel of independent Ichkeria and federal united Russia passes through his fate and the fate of his friends and relatives. A little man can tell about what newspaper reports are silent about. And sometimes his role in the big History becomes decisive.
