Remake of "Tales of a Thousand and One Nights." A witty, ironic, but at the same time serious book, created to convince the reader that “fairy tales about evil and unreasonably cruel Chechens who, for centuries, crawl ashore and sharpen their dagger in order to cut off someone’s head” are fiction. Instead of this bloody stereotype, the author offers other, perhaps no less stereotypical, but completely harmless statements - about respect for elders, about hospitality, about honoring relatives. The plot is like this. Writer Zelim is kidnapped one evening by representatives of the Chechen mafia. And they are taken to the “godfather” - the almighty Don Ahmed. Ahmed is both the mafioso Don Corleone and the noble knight Don Quixote. True, the methods aimed “for the benefit of people around the world” are extraordinary: for example, his syndicate prints counterfeit dollars to undermine “the financial power of American imperialism and multinational corporations.” Don has a more global idea - his own concept of the history of the Russian state, where the Chechens are given a special role. Like any “don,” Akhmed understands that his life could end unexpectedly, so he hurries to share his accumulated wisdom and knowledge with the writer Zelim, so that he captures what he hears in a book.
