The book by the famous literary and theater critic Natalya Staroselskaya tells about the life and creative path of the outstanding Russian Soviet theater director Georgy Aleksandrovich Tovstonogov (1915–1989). For the first time, his fate is traced in detail and biasedly, from the very first years of interest in the theater, his arrival at the Tbilisi Russian Youth Theater, to the last days of his life. For 33 years, the creative destiny of G. A. Tovstonogov was connected with the Leningrad Bolshoi Drama Theater named after M. Gorky. Today the BDT bears his name, preserving the unique traditions of Russian psychological theater, instilled in the team by the great director. This book also tells about the performances and the wonderful galaxy of artists lovingly nurtured by Tovstonogov.
