Magnus Florin's novel The Garden (1995) is a fusion of documentary and fantasy. Its main character, Carl Linnaeus, is far from his real prototype, although the narrative is full of facts going back to the biography of the world-famous scientist. The theme of the novel is man in the face of nature. Who is he? A creator, an inspired improviser, or the creator of a System that threatens to devour all living things? Magnus Florin is a winner of the Swedish Academy Prize for 2001.
