Far in the south of Germany, in the small Bavarian town of Rosenheim, there lives a man, under whose pen many fairy-tale characters came to life: Little Merman, Little Baba Yaga and Little Ghost. This is the world famous storyteller Otfried Preusler. One evening, before going to bed, his little daughters complained that they were terribly afraid of evil witches. The storyteller tried to explain to them that nowadays there is no need to be afraid of evil witches, since they no longer exist. - And why? - the girls asked. - Hmm, but really - why? “I haven’t thought about this before,” the storyteller admitted. But I quickly found something to answer. Thus was born the story about Little Baba Yaga, which he later wrote down for his three daughters and for all the children who want to know why they shouldn’t be afraid of evil witches these days. Do you want to know why there is no need to be afraid of evil witches these days? And why shouldn’t you be afraid of ghosts and mermen? Then read these fairy tales. They were retold for you from the Nenets language by the poet Yuri Korinets.
