The book, in a popular form, introduces the reader to the picture of the pagan Scandinavian world - as it appears in the monuments of mythology and epic (Edda and sagas), as well as in the monuments of ancient fine art and religious cult discovered by archaeologists. The culture of the Germans in the era of the Great Migration of Peoples and the Scandinavians in the era of the Vikings (Varangians) was directly related to the culture of the Slavs and Rus', therefore the book compares the myths and legends of the Scandinavians and Ancient Rus'.
