Персонажі, зокрема детективи Даян Фрай і Бен Купер, прописані дуже глибоко, їхні переживання та емоції відчуваються на кожному кроці. Книга спонукає задуматися про соціальні проблеми, з якими стикаються мігранти, і показує, як важливо не втрачати людяність у жорстоких умовах.
