English philosopher Thomas Hobbes (1588–1679), one of the founders of the social contract theory, believed that in order to gain security, people must cede part of their natural rights to the mighty Leviathan of the state. The treatise "Leviathan", written in the context of the English Revolution, with an obvious conflict between the legislative and executive powers (king versus parliament), became one of the most important studies on the theory of power and had a tremendous influence on the development of culture, philosophy and the political structure of modern society. The book also includes Hobbes' works "Human Nature" (1650) and "On Liberty and Necessity" (1654).

Книга "Левіафан" є справжнім шедевром філософської думки, який відкриває читачеві нові горизонти розуміння суспільства, влади та людської природи. Томас Гоббс, як один із основоположників теорії суспільного договору, майстерно аргументує, чому людина повинна поступитися частиною своїх прав на користь держави для забезпечення безпеки та порядку. Його аналіз конфлікту між законодавчою та виконавчою владою, що був актуальним у часи Англійської революції, залишається надзвичайно актуальним і в наші дні. Включення творів "Людська природа" та "Про свободу та необхідність" робить цю книгу ще більш цінною, адже вона охоплює широкий спектр філософських питань, що стосуються свободи, моралі та необхідності. Хоча переклад тексту може містити деякі недоліки, загальна якість та глибина думок Гоббса компенсують ці незначні недоліки. Рекомендую цю книгу всім, хто цікавиться філософією, політикою та історією, адже вона надає безцінні уроки, які залишаються актуальними і сьогодні.
