Книга "Жага болю" Ендрю Міллера - це справжній шедевр, який занурює читача в складний світ XVIII століття, де розум і розрахунок панують над емоціями. Головний герой, Джеймс Дайер, є унікальним персонажем, адже його нездатність відчувати біль стає як благословенням, так і прокляттям. Автор майстерно описує внутрішній конфлікт героя, його прагнення до успіху та кар'єри, що врешті-решт призводить до ізоляції від людських почуттів. Книга змушує задуматися про моральність та етику в медицині, а також про те, що означає бути людиною. Стиль написання Міллера вражає своєю поетичністю та глибиною, а порівняння з "Парфумером" Зюскінда абсолютно виправдане. Хоча переклад тексту може містити деякі недоліки, це не зменшує загального враження від книги. Рекомендую "Жагу болю" всім, хто цінує літературу, що викликає глибокі роздуми та емоції.
