From the first days of the Eastern Campaign, the main “headache” of the Wehrmacht was Soviet armored vehicles, to fight which the Nazis were forced to throw all their forces - tanks and assault guns, infantry and dive bombers, anti-tank artillery and anti-aircraft guns. The famous “Tigers” and “Panthers” were also created primarily as “killers” of Russian tanks - it didn’t help. As a result, the Germans had to develop a whole family of specialized combat vehicles - the so-called Jagdpanzers (“tank destroyers”), from light “Hetzers” and medium Jagdpanzer IVs to heavy “Jagdpanthers” and super-heavy “Jagdtigers”, rightfully considered the most powerful anti-tank self-propelled guns World War II, the JagdTiger was superior to even the legendary Ferdinands in armoring its conning tower, and its monstrous 128-mm gun hit any armored vehicle at a distance of up to 3 kilometers! Conceived as the next Wunderwaffe (“wonder weapon”), which was supposed to change the course of the war, the Jagdtiger did not live up to the hopes placed on it, becoming the same redundant and virtually useless fighting machine as the Royal Tiger: “Goals worthy The opponents of Nazi Germany did not have a 128-mm cannon. From the metal required to make one Jagdtiger, it was possible to make four Hetzers - the best light anti-tank self-propelled guns of the war, which were much more useful!
