The story “Napoleon's Spy” tells about the military campaign of 1805, when Napoleon was in his prime and still had many victories ahead of him. However, the selfless love of his wife helps him understand the depth of his fall, and he begins to serve the French army, getting into the most risky troubles.
The story “Napoleon's Son” by the same author is based on historical facts and tells about a time later nine years after the death of Napoleon, when his son was actually imprisoned by Chancellor Metternich, who really ruled all the affairs of the empire.

Автор майстерно відтворює атмосферу військових кампаній 1805 року, показуючи не лише військові стратегії, але й людські емоції, які стоять за ними. Головний герой, Карл Шульмейстер, постає перед читачем як складна особистість, готова на все заради щастя своєї сім'ї. Його внутрішня боротьба між обов'язком шпигуна та беззавітним коханням дружини робить його персонаж живим і реалістичним. Читач відчуває його переживання, сумніви та зрештою трансформацію, що робить цю повість не лише історією про військові події, а й глибоким дослідженням людської душі. Незважаючи на деякі недоліки в перекладі, які незначно впливають на загальне враження, книга варта уваги всіх, хто цікавиться історією, пригодами та людськими стосунками.
