Yulia Kuznetsova’s story “House P” is a story about a very ordinary family, with a mother, father, two daughters and grandmother. Dad Seryozha and mom Tanya went to work, Vika went to school, Tina went to kindergarten. And grandmother Zhenya was sitting at home. She was very kind, caring, and more than anything else she was afraid of upsetting her son, the girls’ dad, and, of course, the rest of the family. For example, in order not to scare anyone, she did not say that she actually didn’t watch TV series, but was involved in boxing. One day, dad met his classmate, and he told him that he was now the director of a wonderful place where old men and women could take a break from their worries. Dad had his doubts, but then he still sent grandma Zhenya to a nursing home, or house P, because he somehow couldn’t pronounce the phrase completely. Grandma Zhenya really didn’t want to go there, because she was not at all tired of taking care of her loved ones, but she didn’t want to upset her son even more - so she went. This story is about what happens when we don’t tell each other how we really feel. And also about how important it is to be close to the one you really love. The author of the story “House of P” Yulia Kuznetsova is a winner of the Cherished Dream awards (2009, 2011), the International Children’s Literary Prize named after V. P. Krapivin (2011 ) and “Kniguru” (2012–2013).
