Primo Levi was born in 1919 in Turin. Graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Turin. In 1943–1945 he was a prisoner of Auschwitz. After his release, he worked as a chemist, engaged in literature and translations. The author of two autobiographical books about his camp experiences, “Is This a Man?” (1947), “Respite” (1963), several novels and stories. The book “The Lost and the Saved” is dedicated to the tragedy of prisoners of fascist concentration camps.
