Jean Genet (1910–1986) was a famous French writer, poet and playwright. His devastatingly frank novel “The Celebration of a Funeral” is autobiographical, like Genet’s other prose works. The leitmotif of the story is the funeral of the writer’s close friend, Jean Decarnin, who participated in the Resistance movement and died at the end of the war.
