Our Lady of the Flowers is the first novel by Jean Genet (1910–1986). Written in 1942 in one of the Parisian prisons, where the author, a tramp and thief, was sent for yet another theft, the novel is dedicated to the life of the Parisian “bottom” - the world of thieves, murderers, male prostitutes, their pimps and gigolos. The brilliant style, amazing images, subtle psychologism, and tragic plot of “Our Lady of the Flowers” brought its author world fame. Now the domestic reader has the opportunity to read the novel of the outstanding writer translated into Russian for the first time.
