Dmitry Agalakov’s new novel “The Horde Wolf. The Samarkand Lion" is dedicated to the great confrontation between two giants of the Middle Ages - the formidable Central Asian conqueror Emir Timur and the Khan of the Golden Horde Tokhtamysh. The terrible cruelty of the campaigns of Emir Timur left behind such cemeteries in Asia that even the campaigns of Genghis Khan did not leave behind. But if it were not for the fantastic pride and criminal ingratitude of Tokhtamysh towards his benefactor, the ruler of Transoxiana would never have broken into the territory of the Golden Horde and destroyed it. It was the campaigns of Amir Timur, as his subjects called him, or Tamerlane, the Iron Lame, as his enemies called him, against the treacherous Khan Tokhtamysh that opened up in the future the prospect of liberating Rus' from the hated Tatar-Mongol yoke.
