Joan of Arc... The legend of the “shepherdess” was born in the 19th century, on the crest of another revolutionary wave in France, when the bourgeoisie strongly opposed the return of the aristocracy to the political arena. This is how Jeanne was canonized in 1920. But an alternative version increasingly appears in modern encyclopedias on the Middle Ages. Namely, that Jeanne was a princess, the natural daughter of Duke Louis of Orleans and Queen Isabella of Bavaria of France. And that her life developed far from the way official history suggests to us. Dmitry Agalakov’s new historical adventure novel “Princess of the Blood, or the True Story of Joan of Arc - the Virgin of France” plunges us into this cycle of events. The novel consists of two books: “The Lily Flower” and “The Flight of the Eagle.” The chain of events begins with the first days of Jeanne's birth in the Parisian palace of Barbette, including all her grandiose campaigns, until the day of her true death in 1449, which happened eighteen years later than stated by traditional history.
