Ahasferus, or the Eternal Jew, is a character in a Christian legend that arose in the late Middle Ages. In the novel of the same name by the French writer Eugene Sue (1804–1857), Ahasferus is a mysterious benefactor who has come a long way to understand: by refusing to help the weak, pushing away flawed, a person dooms not only himself, but also his entire family to eternal torment. The author of “Agasphere” creates a special type of adventure novel that combines various genres: fantasy, historical novel, melodrama. The work is filled with spectacular scenes: Morok taming animals, arresting the leaders of the strangler sect, killing a panther in the theater.
