Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (1844–1900) was a German thinker, classical philologist, composer, creator of an original philosophical teaching that is distinctly non-academic in nature. Being presented in an aphoristic manner, most of Nietzsche's works do not lend themselves to unambiguous interpretation and cause a lot of controversy. “Schopenhauer as Educator” (1874) is the third in Nietzsche’s series of cultural critical essays, united under the general title “Untimely Reflections.”
