The collection presents the works of the outstanding German romantic writer Wilhelm Hauff (1802–1827), reflecting various facets of his talent: three author's cycles of fairy tales published in Russian in full, including stories about the caliph, included in the treasury of world literature - the stork, Dwarf Nose, little Muk and Peter the coal miner; the short story “Fantasies in the Bremen wine cellar at the town hall”, imbued with memories of the cheerful student years that the writer spent in Tübingen, and at the same time full of incredible incidents; finally, the novel “Lichtenstein”, where, against the backdrop of turbulent historical events - the struggle of Ulrich, Duke of Württemberg, with the powerful Swabian League and the Duchy of Bavaria - a romantic love story unfolds between the daughter of the duke’s loyal supporter Maria von Lichtenstein and the knight Georg von Sturmfeder.
