Ryan Oronzi is a paranoid, neurotic, and brilliant physicist who has developed a quantum military technology that could make soldiers nearly invincible in the field. The technology, however, gives power to the quantum creature known as the varcolac, which slowly begins to manipulate Dr. Oronzi and take over his mind. Раян Оронзі, як головний герой, є складним персонажем, який викликає симпатію та співчуття, адже його геніальність і невротизм створюють унікальну динаміку. Автор майстерно описує, як квантова технологія, що повинна була стати благом, перетворюється на загрозу, коли варколак починає маніпулювати Оронзі. Сюжет переплітає елементи драми, напруги та наукових концепцій, які змушують задуматися про етику технологій і їх вплив на людство. Дві молоді жінки, Сандра та Алекс Келлі, додають ще більше глибини до історії, адже їх боротьба з варколаком стає не лише фізичною, але й емоційною.
