Wassily Kandinsky is one of the leaders of the European avant-garde of the 20th century, but at the same time he is a true classic, whose work determined the development of European and domestic art of the last century. The artist's practical activity was inseparable from his work in the field of art theory: he always sought to formulate and justify his discoveries in painting theoretically. Being a widely educated man, Kandinsky had an undoubted literary gift. He talked and wrote a lot about art. This circumstance makes it possible to trace the formation and evolution of the artist’s views on art, to analyze the justification of his own artistic concept, based on his own texts on the theory of art. The book includes the most important theoretical works of Kandinsky: his central work “On the Spiritual in Art”, “Point and Line” on a plane”, as well as autobiographical notes “Steps”, in which the artist describes the aspirations that prompted him to finally devote his life to art. Along with this, the publication includes several articles on art pedagogy.
