In our country, the poetry of T. S. Eliot (1888–1965), the greatest Anglo-American poet and Nobel Prize laureate (1948), is known mainly. In this book, for the first time in Russia, he is presented holistically as a thinker-sociologist, cultural philosopher, literary critic, that is, adequate to the scale of his personality, talent and social significance. The book includes previously unpublished translations of works in Russia that were fundamental to him - The Idea of a Christian Society (1939), Notes on the definition of the concept of “culture” (1948), essays on Virgil, Dante, Machiavelli, Pascal, Goethe, Baudelaire, E. Poe, E. Pound, English literature - from Shakespeare, Donne, Dryden to Swinburne.

The book is dedicated to the memory of Andrei Sergeev, translator of the poetry of T. S. Eliot

The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
