The novel takes place in the second half of the 19th century. The heroine of the novel is the young and attractive Martha Ley, an ardent and extraordinary nature, having lost her father and the support of her family, she becomes a governess. Arriving at Mount Mellin, a cold and gloomy castle, and getting acquainted with its inhabitants. Martha understands why her predecessors did not stay there for long. She feels that the ancient castle keeps many terrible secrets... A complex storyline, in which love and deceit, fear and intrigue are closely intertwined, keeps the reader in suspense until the very last page.
