“The Life of Monsieur de Moliere” (1932 – 1933, published 1962) is one of the most original works of the outstanding Russian writer and playwright Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov (1891-1940). The novelized biography of Moliere, based by Bulgakov on documentary evidence known to him, became , due to the personality of the protagonist and his aspirations, was a deeply personal work - the writer narrated not only about Moliere, but also about himself. This is what delayed the book’s arrival to readers for a decade.
