The history of the Order of the Temple, the accusations brought against it and its tragic end left a mark on the public consciousness. The collapse of the Crusades and the death of the Latin states of the Holy Land undermined the material and ideological foundations of its activities. The Order of the Temple fell at the beginning of the 14th century. at the hands of King Philip the Fair of France.
