The history of the Order of the Temple, the accusations brought against it and its tragic end left a mark on the public consciousness. On this historical basis, myths, traditions and legends were formed, spread, and then distorted. The Order was created in 1118–1119. on the initiative of several knights who participated in the crusade in order to permanently realize the main idea associated with the protection of the tomb of Christ in Jerusalem and the pilgrims visiting it. The order gained power and formed a network of monasteries and farms throughout the Christian world, which collected donations and taxes to meet the needs of the Holy Land. The collapse of the Crusades and the death of the Latin states of the Holy Land undermined the material and ideological foundations of its activities. The Order of the Temple fell at the beginning of the 14th century. at the hands of King Philip the Fair of France.
