Ismail Kadare (Ismail Kadare; born 1936) is an Albanian poet, prose writer, essayist, winner of several literary prizes, member of the French Academy. Graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology of the University of Tirana and the Literary Institute in Moscow. Author of the poetry collections “My Age” (“Shekulli im”, 1961), “What are these mountains thinking about” (“Perse mendohen këto male”, 1964), “Time” (“Koha”, 1977); novels “Lost April” (“Prilli i thyer”, 1978), “Who brought Doruntin” (“Ckush e solli Doruntinën”, 1986), “Pyramid” (“Piramida”, 1992). “IL” published I. Kadare’s novel “General of the Dead Army” (1989, No. 6) and the story “Messenger of Trouble” (1992, No. 8–9). The story “The Great Wall” (“Muri i madh” is taken from the first volume collected works of I. Kadare (Paris, Fayard, 1993).
