"Egmont: The Five-Day Tragedy" is a famous work of the great German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The book tells about the hero - Count Egmont, who fights for the freedom of his people in the Netherlands from the Spanish tyrant. He is devoted to his people and his ideals, but at the same time he falls in love with his enemy, Princess Clara. While Egmont tries to combine his patriotic passions with love, his enemies devise an insidious plot to take everything from him. This tragedy leads to an irreparable result, in which the hero is powerless before the forces of political intrigue. Egmont reveals a heroic spirit and deep moral values, which makes his figure immortal in the history of literature.
