The Telesterion is a temple of initiation in the Eleusinian Mysteries, with a mystical performance in which, as in rural festivals, the features of the theater of Dionysus were first identified. It was a special building in the shape of a cubic rectangle, almost like a modern one, with a large stage and benches for a small number of spectators prepared for the dedication. During the action with the kidnapping of Persephone and the birth of her son from Zeus, Dionysus goes to Hades, followed by spectators descending into the catacombs under the stage, accompanied by torchbearers, with an exit in the morning to the seashore. Initiation presupposed the acquisition of immortality of the soul, just like theater - initiation into the mysteries of life and art, which is the meaning of our Telesterion. Small excerpts from poems, tragedies and comedies are presented here as suites (a sequence of dance and musical variations, and therefore dramatic ones), in which characters from myths and history come to life over thousands of years in humanity’s finest hours, as if they had truly acquired immortality, and with them we, for a brief moment of earthly existence.
