The Vyoshensk uprising is one of the most tragic pages in the history of the Don Cossacks. The uniqueness of this uprising was already noted by contemporaries; one of the White Guard newspapers wrote: “We read about huge peasant uprisings in the Tambov province - however, they were all suppressed, and only the uprising of the Upper Don of all Russian uprisings was crowned with success.” The author of the book meticulously restores the atmosphere in the villages on the eve of the uprising, trying to figure out what was the true cause of the uprising, emphasis is placed on the fate of the participants in the uprising. Of particular interest is the problem revealed by the author of choosing a side - white or red, which faced the common Cossacks. The pages of the book describe in detail the course of hostilities, the forces of the rebels, the Red Army and the Don Army.
