This book, based entirely on Peruvian reality, reveals an aspect of life in third world countries that has traditionally been hidden behind a veil of ideological prejudice. Unlike good fiction, which instructs us gradually, The Other Way is a direct and frank narrative about present and future life in the Third World. Unlike cliched economic and sociological essays about Latin America, which are quite abstract and do not touch upon specific sectors of society, “The Other Way” does not deviate one step from real life. The author examines a hitherto little-studied and, one might say, little-understood phenomenon - the illegal economy - and proposes a way to solve the economic problems of developing countries. This solution is radically different from the economic projects developed by the governments (progressive and conservative) of most Third World countries, but it is - and this is the main thesis of this book - the same solution that the poorest sections of society in these countries are already implementing in practice.
