The book “Gogol's Realism” was created by G. A. Gukovsky in 1946–1949. Work on it was not completed by the late author. In particular, from the planned large chapter or even a separate volume on “Dead Souls” only an introductory section was written. This book was, according to G. A. Gukovsky’s plan, to be part of his large work, designed for several volumes, dedicated to the development of the realistic style in Russian literature of the 19th–20th centuries. She continues his previously written works about Pushkin (“Pushkin and the Russian Romantics”, Saratov, 1946, and “Pushkin and the Problems of Realistic Style”, M., Goslitizdat, 1957). It was to be followed by a work about Leo Tolstoy. The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
