British scholar Stephen Runciman in his work tells the history of the Frankish states of Outremer from the time of the accession to the throne of King Baldwin I until the conquest of Jerusalem by Saladin. The author focused on Outremer, given that it existed during a period of active Western European politics and religious wars. It is these numerous campaigns that the book is dedicated to, since all life in Outremer took place against their backdrop, and the dangers characteristic of the battlefield often became fateful. The historian considered it necessary to include in the book a chapter devoted to life in the Frankish states in the East and how they were structured.

Його аналіз політичних і релігійних аспектів, що вплинули на розвиток подій, вражає глибиною та точністю. Особливо цікавою є глава, присвячена життю у франкських державах, адже вона дозволяє зрозуміти, як повсякденність людей була переплетена з війною та небезпекою. Хоча переклад тексту іноді має незначні недоліки, це не зменшує загального враження від книги. Рекомендую цю працю всім, хто прагне глибше зануритися в історію та зрозуміти складні взаємини між культурами та релігіями того часу!
