The book by British medieval historian Stephen Runciman covers the period from the Third Crusade of the late 12th century to the mid-15th century, when the crusader movement finally came to an end. Runciman tells of the bitter century that followed the conquest of Jerusalem by Saladin, the brief period of revival of the Frankish states of Outremer and the fall of Acre, the last stronghold of Christians in the East. The historian also talks about the last crusades that succeeded or failed to reach the walls of Jerusalem, as well as the rise to power of the Mamluks and the appearance of the Mongols in the Holy Land. In the last chapters the author sums up the era of the Crusades and gives a brief overview of the crafts and arts in Outremer. The publishing layout of the book is saved in PDF A4 format.

Книга Стівена Рансімена "Королівство Акри та пізні хрестові походи" є неймовірно цінним джерелом для всіх, хто цікавиться середньовічною історією та хрестовими походами. Автор детально аналізує події, що відбувалися з кінця XII століття до середини XV століття, і майстерно розкриває складні політичні та соціальні обставини, які призвели до падіння Акри, останнього оплоту християн на Сході. Особливо вражає те, як Рансімен підходить до опису останніх хрестових походів, намагаючись зрозуміти причини їхніх невдач і успіхів. Книга також містить цікаві факти про мамлюків та монголів, що надає додатковий контекст до подій того часу. Хоча переклад тексту іноді має недоліки, загальна якість викладу та глибина аналізу компенсують ці незначні недоліки. Рекомендую цю книгу всім, хто хоче глибше зануритися в історію хрестових походів та їхній вплив на розвиток Європи та Близького Сходу.
