Each of us is dominated by some kind of philosophy - nudism or Buddhism, scientific materialism or snake worship, communism or vegetarianism, subjective idealism or rationalism... And each subsequent step of familiarization with culture is a process of control over consciousness. An example is one Zen parable , in which the teacher forced one of the monks to think only about the bull day after day. After some time, the teacher approached the monk’s cell and said: “Come out, I want to talk to you.” “I can’t get out,” answered the monk, “my horns won’t fit through the doors.” It is obvious that the monk has undergone some brain changes. And waking up from this hypnotic state, he clearly saw the mechanism of all other delusions of man and achieved enlightenment. We are all, like this monk, giants raised by pygmies who have learned to live mentally hunched over. How we can stand up to our full height, to the full power of our brain - that's what this book is about.
