February 12, 2009 marked the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth, and November 24 was the 150th anniversary of the publication of his main work, “The Origin of Species.” In this work, Darwin, for strategic reasons, did not discuss the issue of human origins. He only hinted that his theory would “shed light” on this problem. Darwin's famous phrase about "shedding light" is cited as an example of one of the most "modest" statements in the history of science (or the greatest "understatements", understatements). At the same time, it is also one of the most successful scientific predictions. The light has indeed been shed, and over the past 150 years there has been a wealth of support for Darwin's idea of human origins through gradual evolution from a common ancestor with modern apes. The author provides a visual summary of the main results on this topic, including advances in paleoanthropology, comparative genetics and evolutionary psychology.
