Awarded the British Science Fiction Award (1977) for the novel “Brontomech!” The action takes place on the planet Arcadia, and we again meet the heroes of the novel “Syzygy”. The planet, having seduced the inhabitants with the prospect of economic growth, is taken over by the Hetherington corporation, but the Arcadians find themselves hostage to this agreement and realize their mistake only when armored vehicles and amorphs that have taken on human form appear on the planet. Two years have passed on Arcadia after the events described in the novel "Syzygy". The settlers do not believe in the future of this world and fly away. The planet is dying. But the Hetherington Organization corporation is interested in Arcadia and is ready to develop it.
