The nineteenth novel from the “History of Poland” series by Yu. I. Kraszewski covers the reign of four Polish kings: Casimir Jagiellonczyk (1445–1492), Jan Olbracht (1492–1501), Alexander (1501–1506), Sigismund the Old (1506) –1548).The main character of the novel, the orphan Yashka Orfan, on whose behalf the story is told, is looking for his parents. He serves in turn at the court of these kings and talks about the historical events he witnessed and about his own fate. The novel is published in Russian for the first time.

Крашевський майстерно відтворює атмосферу епохи, описуючи життя при дворі королів та політичні інтриги, які відбувалися в той час. Головний герой, Яшка Орфан, є не лише свідком історичних подій, але й символом пошуку ідентичності та родини. Його подорож, сповнена емоцій та переживань, робить читання неймовірно захоплюючим. Хоча переклад тексту з оригіналу має деякі недоліки, це не заважає насолоджуватися глибоким змістом та історичними деталями. Рекомендую цю книгу всім, хто цінує якісну літературу та хоче дізнатися більше про польську історію!
