Giorgione of Castelfranco (d. 1510) is one of the most mysterious and hitherto unknown masters of the Italian Renaissance. A contemporary of such titans as Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, he managed not to get lost among them, and his work had a noticeable influence on the subsequent development of painting. Aleksandr Makhov, a recognized expert on Italy and Italian art, writer, culturologist and translator, tells in his new book about the fate of the great Venetian and about the works that undoubtedly belonged to him or are only attributed to him.
