Surviving in battle, killing or putting the enemy to flight is, of course, a victory, but not the most difficult one. It is many times more difficult to conquer yourself: to see the line between self-respect and arrogance, between pride and arrogance, between integrity and stubbornness. And having seen and understood, be able not to step over it. Sometimes this requires looking at the world around us with different eyes, abandoning the usual views that have been established over decades. And it doesn’t matter at all when these views and habits were formed - in the 20th century or in the 12th, because at any time the words are true: “The one who has conquered himself is truly strong.” Victory over yourself is a victory in which there are no vanquished, because the force that commanded you against your will becomes a conquered force.
