Robert Menasse (b. 1954) is a contemporary Austrian writer, winner of several literary awards. “Blissful Times, Fragile Peace” (1991) is a tragicomic life story of a certain philosopher Leo Singer, who firmly believes that he is called to write a book that can change world. Last year, this essay by Leo Singer - “Phenomenology of Spiritlessness” - actually saw the light of day: only Robert Menasse himself wrote it for his hero.
