Robert Menasse (b. 1954), a famous Austrian prose writer and brilliant essayist (his novel “Blissful Times - A Fragile Peace” was published in Russian), dedicated his book to the problems of the political and cultural history of post-war Austria. The author's ironic and sometimes shocking judgments about “Austrian originality” are based on an accurate and insightful analysis and allow us to see this country in a new, unusual light. Menasse “deconstructs” many mental clichés and cultural and political stereotypes that still dominate the public and individual consciousness of Austria. The book was written in 1992.
