Back in 1950, the American mathematician, the founding father of cybernetics and the theory of artificial intelligence, Norbert Wiener published the work “The Human Application of Human Beings” (in Russian translation - “Cybernetics and Society”), in which he expressed his fears related to the development of artificial intelligence. Now, in the 21st century, the problem looks even more pressing. Our computer addiction has become total. Entertainment, shopping, work, study - almost everything is concentrated in palm-sized gadgets. Guided by convenience and – let’s be honest? – because of laziness, we transfer some of the annoying and boring functions to AI, and often trust it to make decisions. So far, in the wake of euphoria from the new prospects, the advantages of artificial intelligence seem undeniable, but won’t it turn out that the nice conveniences that we have now received , during the “infancy” of artificial intelligence, will turn into major troubles when the “baby” grows up and looks at the “parents” with a critical eye? Guided by the formula “forewarned is forearmed,” John Brockman invited famous scientists, publicists and philosophers to reflect on the prospects of interaction human and artificial intelligence in the light of the ideas expressed by Wiener, as well as in the light of new realities and the latest achievements of scientific thought.
