Georg Simmel (1858–1918) was a German philosopher and sociologist, a representative of the philosophy of life, who directly or indirectly influenced the development of philosophy and sociology of the twentieth century. Considering the history of culture through the prism of the conflict between life and culture, Simmel proposed an original interpretation of, in fact, the main problem of the modern era, which gave J. Habermas the basis to call him “a philosophical diagnostician of his time.” The enduring advantage of Simmel's works is the essayistic expressiveness of their style. The book is intended for a wide range of readers.
