The adventure-historical novel by Lawrence Schoonover “The Burnished Blade” was published in 1948 in New York by the famous Macmillan publishing house. The action of the novel takes place in the 15th century in France, Constantinople and Trebizond and covers the period from the spring of 1431 in Rouen (the time and place of the execution of Joan of Arc, the execution and its historical background are described in detail in the book) to the autumn of 1444 in Constantinople and Trebizond (nine years before the fall of Byzantium and 17 years before the conquest of the Trebizond Empire Ottoman Turks). The main character, who grew up in the house of one of the best gunsmiths in France, a specialist in knightly armor (hence the title of the book), receives the task of uncovering the source of smuggling of jewelry and drugs to France and for this purpose makes a voyage to the East.

"Блиск клинка" - це не просто історичний роман, а справжня авантюрна епопея, яка переносить читача в епоху XV століття, де переплітаються долі людей, політичні інтриги та емоційні переживання. Лоуренс Шуновер майстерно описує атмосферу того часу, зокрема, події навколо страти Жанни д'Арк, що додає глибини та історичної правдивості. Головний герой, вихований у майстерні зброяра, стає не лише свідком, а й активним учасником подій, що розгортаються на тлі величних міст Франції, Константинополя та Трапезунду. Читання цієї книги - це ніби подорож у часі, де кожна сторінка наповнена пригодами, небезпеками та відкриттями. Однак, варто зазначити, що переклад, хоч і якісний, місцями може бути не зовсім коректним, що трохи псує враження від читання. Проте, це не зменшує загальної цінності твору, адже сюжет та глибина персонажів здатні захопити будь-якого читача.
