In the late autumn of 1263, Prince Alexander returned from a trip to the Horde. Halfway home, he feels a strange malaise that is gradually growing. Alexander begins to realize that he may have been poisoned. Two of his faithful friends - the senior warrior Sava and the German knight Erich, baptized into the Orthodox faith - decide to immediately go to the headquarters of the Horde khan Mengu-Timur to find out what could have poisoned Alexander and whether there is an antidote.
