After a month of traveling through the desert, Samuel and Willie entered Arizona, anticipating the interest with which the residents of the town would listen to their story. But not even a hundred feet into the city, Willie suddenly braked. Something was wrong with the city, and for some time they could not understand what exactly. A green fence, an orange barn, a church, a railway station, a county jail - everything around was yellow, green, red. The city literally shone with all the colors of the rainbow. There is not a speck of dust on the road, the lawns are well-groomed. Boys ran past with their faces washed clean, their shirts ironed and their shoes polished to a shine. What nonsense! What could have happened, what catastrophe, or perhaps a fit of madness, forced the residents to “lick” their city like this?..
